Principal's letter to Seniors and Parents

 GRADUATION  2016!!!

Dear Seniors and Parents,

As we prepare to head off into Spring Break, I hope you have an enjoyable and restful time with your family and friends. Now that we have begun Quarter 4, it is time to turn our attention towards the end of the school year and more importantly: Graduation Day! Your last two months of school are going to go very fast, and it is my hope that our entire senior class is able to participate in our ceremony marking the end of their high school career.

Please take this opportunity to review all the information in this packet carefully so that you are informed of both the events and our expectations for our Senior Class throughout the last two months of school.

For the class of 2016, we are planning to recognize over 560 Westview Seniors during our graduation ceremony. This special event is one that all Westview graduates and their families will remember for the rest of their lives, and we want to ensure that this is an event of which you can be proud. Both our staff and students are working hard to organize an event that recognizes the importance of this academic accomplishment. Below you will find a list of expectations we hold for all seniors participating in our graduation ceremony. We believe that these guidelines will help promote an atmosphere of celebration, respect, and honor.

Please know that participation in the graduation ceremony is entirely voluntary; therefore, participants are required to follow the guideline below:

1.    Required dress for women:  Dress, pantsuit, or skirt and blouse appropriate for the occasion; dress shoes.

2.    Required dress for men:  Dress shirt and tie; dress slacks; dark dress shoes.

3.    Graduating seniors may not carry cell phones, cameras, flowers, beach balls, or articles of any kind into the ceremony.

4.    No adornments are allowed on the graduation gown or cap (i.e. leis, scarves, etc.)

5.    Evidence indicating possession, consumption, or use of any intoxicating agents, or the possession, or use of any type of explosives will result in immediate removal from the graduation ceremonies.

6.    Pranks, vandalism, or lingering on campus outside of school hours are a violation of school rules.  Entering campus for pranks is trespassing; the damage done is vandalism.  Any participants in such acts will be suspended from school and required to pay restitution for damages.  Anyone involved in such an incident will not be allowed to participate in senior activities nor in the graduation ceremony.

Seniors, I would ask that you take a minute to reflect back on the time you have spent with us at Westview. High school is a time in which our students undergo tremendous growth, and I would have to believe that there are several people both at home and at school that made significant impact on your development.  Prior to heading off to your post high school journey, make sure that you take the opportunity to thank these individuals for the differences they made in your life. From my perspective, I would be remiss if I did not thank you for making Westview the place it is today. For the last four years the class of 2016 always reminded me of how lucky I am to be their Principal, and I know without a doubt that Westview is a better place because of the passion, class, and dignity that you brought to our campus every day.

As graduation day approaches, I know that the class of 2016 will finish their time at Westview on a strong note, and that we have 100% participation in our commencement ceremony. Whether in class or at the multiple celebratory activities, we hold the expectation that all our students act in a respectful and responsible manner. It is truly upsetting to meet with students and parents who will not be able to participate in their graduation ceremony due to failing a class, or having a lapse in judgment over the last few weeks of school.

Please help us to ensure that the final days at Westview for the class of 2016 are a meaningful and positive experience for everyone in our community.

Thank you,

Mr. Todd Cassen, Principal
