After high school, he attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Go Mustangs!) and graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Next, he attended the University of San Diego to pursue his M.Ed. in Curriculum/Instruction and teaching credential.
In 2001, Mr. Kirpalani had the opportunity to start the chemistry department at Steele Canyon High School in the Grossmont Unified HS District. After six years at Steele Canyon HS, Mr. Kirpalani joined PUSD in 2007 as an assistant principal at Twin Peaks Middle School.
After three years at Twin Peaks Middle School, Mr. Kirpalani moved to Westview High School where he was an assistant principal until it was announced that he was going to be the new principal at Black Mountain Middle School.
Mr. Kirpalani has been married to his wife Shawna for 11 years and has a son, Jacob (6), and a daughter, Hannah (3). Outside of school he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, attempting to play golf, trying to surf and watching sports, especially football and basketball.
I was born and raised in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA and earned my B.S. in Microbiology from Pennsylvania State University. I've lived in San Diego since 1996 and am the very proud mother of three adult sons. I truly appreciated the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom for twelve years before returning to school to earn my teaching credential from Cal State University - San Marcos in 2000 when my youngest son was in 1st grade. In 2009 I completed requirements for my Masters' Degree in Educational Leadership as well as my Administrative Credential also at CSUSM. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching 6-8th grade math classes at Twin Peaks Middle School from 2000-2012, and was extremely honored and thrilled to be selected as a Poway Unified School District Teacher of the Year for 2011-12. I love to watch all sports - especially football, baseball, soccer and lacrosse. My favorite teams are the Steelers, Pirates and the Nittany Lions! I love the beach, coffee, chocolate and pennies, and enjoy doing yoga, riding my bike, crocheting and reading.
