Principal’s Message

September 19, 2016

Greetings Explorer Families,

Please plan on joining me at this Thursday evening's PTA/Foundation General Association meeting. Come and hear how these two incredible organizations plan on supporting our school this year. Also come and hear their plans to involve our families in school related activities.

Following the PTA/Foundation meeting, please stay to enjoy our yearly Family Art Night. Mrs. Navapanich, our art teacher, has planned an intriguing and creative art project that all of the community can enjoy.

Del Sur Educational Foundation-Green Envelope Campaign

Way to go Explorer Families!

Thank you so much to all of the families who have made a donation in the first two weeks of our Del Sur Foundation Green Envelope Campaign!  We are excited to share that we are at 14% of the way to our $95,000 goal at over $13,000.00 so far!

Please take 2 minutes to go online at delsurfoundation.org and use the DONATE link to make your $250 donation per student or drop your envelope off at the front office!

GARDEN CLUB

Come join our Garden Club where we learn about plants and get our hands dirty doing it! Our first Garden Work Day will be Thursday, October 6th, 1:15-2:15pm. It is open to all Del Sur students, grade 1-5. Kinders and Preschool students will need to have an adult with them. If your child is in ESS and would like to participate, please notify the ESS staff and they will bring your child over to the garden boxes on Garden Days. The ESS kids will be escorted back to ESS after the garden activities. We also welcome parents to the garden. No experience necessary. Garden Club will continue to be on occasional Thursdays after school.  We do have a New Shutterfly page where we will post the calendar. If you would like to be added to this page, please email Ana Rubio at anarubio111@gmail.com we hope to see you at the garden!

PTA MEMEBERSHIP DRIVE – JOIN ONLINE TODAY!

Our PTA Membership Drive is off to a good start, but we’d love to see more of our Explorer Families join the PTA.  A PTA Membership is $10 per person, and the money that Del Sur receives from these memberships pays for great events and activities for our students, like Running Club items including scanners, student badges and student prizes, the wonderful Student Assemblies that we hold after each of the Principal’s Reading Challenges, the student-loved Family Dance, the upcoming Family Art Night put on by Mrs. N, participation in the Reflections Program which encourages students to explore their artistic creativity, new playground equipment and more.  The PTA would love to see an increase in membership this year to match our increase in students!

You can join the PTA online this year!  The link to join online is: http://bit.ly/dsepta-signup.  On behalf of the PTA, we thank you - your participation truly is what makes Del Sur such an amazing school for our students!

RUNNING CLUB – STARTS THIS TUESDAY!

It’s almost time to hit the track again!  Running Club starts this Tuesday, September 20th.  Running Club will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00am - 11:10am.  We have introduced a scanning system, so volunteers will be scanning students’ ID cards as they complete laps.  Because we have more students this year, we will need 4 volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday in order to hold Running Club.  Please sign up to volunteer through the Sign-Up Genius link below.  Thanks for supporting Running Club!

PTA DINE OUT EVENT AT MIGUEL’S

Mar Miguel’s in 4S Commons.  Miguel’s will donate 15% of your food and beverage orders from 4pm to close (for dine-in orders only).  The flyer is attached and must be presented on 9/28/16 in order for Del Sur Elementary to receive the donation.  A flyer will also be sent home with your child next week.  Dine out with friends and family while supporting the Del Sur Elementary!

 RE-LINK YOUR RALPH’S CARD TODAY!

It's time to re-link your Ralph's card to Del Sur Elementary!  Everyone must re-link their Ralph’s card to DSE as of 9/1.  Your purchases will NOT earn money for Del Sur until you re-link!  It’s quick, easy and this program earned over $10,000 last year for our school!  This income is vital to the “extras" your children enjoy, such as guest speakers, special projects, field trip off-sets, etc.  Please re-link today! Don't forget to remind your friends and family too!

EXPLORER SPOTLIGHT

Calling All Nominations For The Next EXPLORER SPOTLIGHT!  Do you know of a Del Sur Elementary student or teacher who has done something INSPIRATIONAL recently or over the summer? If so, we want to know about it! He or she may be our next Explorer SpotlightDon't be too shy or humble : ) Your nominee doesn't need to belong to the Peace Corp, speak 5 languages, or have saved the Black Rhino from extinction… although all noble endeavors,  a very simple ACT OF KINDNESS, ACCOMPLISHED GOAL, CREATIVE SOLUTION or PURSUIT OF PASSION is enough

What exactly is the EXPLORER SPOTLIGHT program?  The Explorer Spotlight is a single individual or small group who is nominated by a Del Sur Elementary staff member, teacher, parent, or fellow student, for being inspirational for one reason or another. An Explorer can be nominated as a "Spotlightee" by demonstrating exceptional and inspiring TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING, CITIZENSHIP, CREATIVITY, or EXTRACURRICULAR ACHIEVEMENT. A featured Spotlightee is highlighted once or twice a month with a photo and their short inspirational story on the Spotlight Wall on campus and DSE online media.

What is the purpose of the EXPLORER SPOTLIGHT Program?  The purpose of the Del Sur Elementary Explorer Spotlight Program is to highlight and support our amazing school, it's staff, and it's student body, as well as help strengthen the general sense of connectedness in our community and between our student body and staff. The Explorer Spotlight Program aims to enable students to see and be inspired by what their peers and teachers are up to, what interests them, what makes them unique... potentially creating a respect and tolerance for all shapes, sizes, colors, ages, genders, backgrounds, behavior spectrums, etc.

How to nominate an EXPLORER SPOTLIGHT?  Talk to your friends, neighbors, children, their friends and teachers for nomination ideas. Then email Erika at givens.erika@gmail.com or go to http://dseexplorerspotlight.weebly.com/ and click Make a Nomination in the menu bar. Fill out a Nomination Form with your contact information and a brief paragraph outlining your nominee's inspirational story and why they would make a great Explorer Spotlight. Then hit submit!
