Happy New Year from the Foundation!
By The Painted Rock Foundation
January 11, 2016

The Painted Rock Elementary School Foundation hopes you and your family enjoyed a wonderful break from school and are looking forward to a great 2016! We are so excited for what the spring has in store for our school and its programs.

With January here, auction planning is in full swing! For those veterans of the Rock, you know Auction Week is a major fundraiser for the Painted Rock Foundation and we rely heavily on securing donations for our online, silent and live auction from not only our community businesses, but from YOU — our Panther family. We would greatly appreciate and are ready to receive donations and sponsorships from generous families and businesses like yours. Donations can be any size, shape or amount but we ask that you please save your gently-used donations for the Spring Garage Sale!

Need ideas for donations? Here are some ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

  • Keep it Simple - Received a gift card over the holidays that you won't use? Do you have extra gift cards sitting in a drawer that are unused? We'll take them! These are always a big hit!
  • Promote Your Business - Donate an item or service or experience from your business.
  • Creative & Crafty - Have a crafty talent? Donate a homemade item for that added personal touch -- sewing items, wreaths, picture frames, etc.
  • Adventurous Items - Consider donating your timeshares, vacation rentals or day excursions. These items always make for a FUN live auction!
  • Write a Check - Not really sure what to donate but want to help? We have a variety of sponsorships that help keep auction costs down so more money goes back into the school!
Would you like to channel your inner Martha Stewart? We can always use help with graphic design, party decorating, soliciting for donations and much more. Consider helping our Auction Committee as we plan and prep for a week of fun and fundraising to enhance the educational experience of every student at Painted Rock.

To offer a hand, please contact presfauction@gmail.com.

Save the Dates:
  • Friday, March 18: Family Night at Painted Rock
  • Saturday, April 2: Auction Event at the Bernardo Heights Country Club

This year, the theme of our Evening Auction event will be Music! Studies show that music is a vital part of our children's development. The parents at Painted Rock fully fund the music program at the Rock! To date, each class has received 8 classes with our music teacher, Lauren Long, and will receive approximately 20 lessons by the end of the year. Some of the specific lessons she is teaching are the ukulele, the recorder, percussions and reading rhythms!

Thank you parents for all you do to make our students shine!

It's that time again! Black Friday and Cyber Monday are upon us as we kickstart the holiday shopping season. For those of you shopping online, use the Painted Rock Foundation Amazon Link and a portion of your purchases goes to our school!

When you shop on Amazon using our link, a portion of your purchase (an average of 6%) goes to the Painted Rock School Foundation. This money is used to support programs for your children including iPads, science, music, and impact teachers. Best of all, it's free! It does not cost you any more to purchase through our link than going direct to Amazon. Simply click this link every time you shop and you can help raise money for our students. Please forward this email to your family and friends too --- you don't need to have a child at Painted Rock to participate.

Avoid the crowds, find good deals, and raise money for Painted Rock! Shop Amazon Now.

We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give. The Painted Rock Foundation encourages you to consider our school's Foundation for your charitable giving on December 1st. Stop by the office and donate what you can to the Painted Rock Foundation. With every $5, $10 or $50, you will be helping to continue to provide the very important programs and services our children.

Keep forgetting to donate to the 252 Campaign? Let #GivingTuesday be the reminder to complete your tax deductible donation before the end of the year!

Open Your Heart
By The Painted Rock Foundation
September 24, 2015

WOW! Thank you to everyone who has already donated to the 252 Annual Fund Campaign. We have raised $37,313 so far to help fund our music program, impact teaching, over $25,000 in classroom supplies and our new STEM education program! But, we aren't done yet. We need a total of over $100,000 to fund this year's budget.

Let's keep it going! Every family that donates to the 252 Annual Fund Campaign before October 25th will be entered once into a raffle to win two tickets to the Madonna Rebel Heart Tour concert at Valley View Casino Center on October 29, 2015! Families that have already donated to this year's campaign will also be entered into the raffle. The raffle will be held on Monday, October 25th at 9am.

Please consider making your tax-deductible contribution today via:

We are so excited to announce an amazing addition to the Painted Rock teaching staff - April Palluconi! Mrs. Palluconi has joined Painted Rock as our STEM teacher. Our school is like home for April as she has a deep-rooted Panther history as a Painted Rock student and a substitute teacher. Mrs. Palluconi began teaching in 1998, primarily in Poway, teaching Kindergarten until her children were born and continuing to substitute teach as she raised her family. When she is not busy with her childrens' activities, she loves leading a Cadette Girl Scout Troop, reading, planting flowers and playing with the family's new golden retriever puppy.

Mrs. Palluconi brings an abundance of science and technology experience to our school. As a Tierra Bonita substitute and parent volunteer, she is well-versed in their science education program and will utilize this knowledge to create a grade-level, curriculum-based program that will provide organized, forward-thinking STEM education to every single one of our students. And, of course, a bunch of fun, messy experiments!

Starting in November, Mrs. Palluconi will begin teaching 8-10 science lessons to each class. Depending on the grade level, these lessons will cover biological, physical, chemical, life and earth sciences, as well as computer science and engineering.

This program will incorporate everything our special campus has to offer from all of our new technology to the garden. One of Mrs. Palluconi's goals for this year is to use the new technology in the classrooms to expose the students to the latest scientific information. The iPads and Chromebooks will allow her to access up-to-date information in a new and exciting way for the students. She plans to use the school garden to explore the life cycle of plants and to examine seeds, roots and leaves up close to explore the differences between varieties.

Mrs. Palluconi is especially looking forward to teaching about space exploration and the solar system. Her family has over sixty years of experience in the space industry and her husband and father-in-law both worked on NASA's Curiosity Rover, currently exploring Mars.

If you see her on campus, please give her a warm welcome and thank her for helping us provide STEM education across every grade and every class at Painted Rock!

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year!
By The Painted Rock Foundation
Monday, August 17, 2015

Another year at Painted Rock with our Panther Family is right around the corner, and the Painted Rock Foundation welcomes you! From time to time, you will receive this blog to keep you updated on the programs and services we are funding at our school. Our blog will also provide information on the fundraisers happening throughout the year so you can determine how and when your family wishes to participate. The Foundation is a 501c3 organization with a board of volunteer parents and staff. We determine what is to be funded by listening to YOU! We also work with our staff on an ongoing basis to determine what needs are not being funded by the district or the state and we FUNDRAISE our hearts out to fill those gaps. Our goal is simple: to enhance the educational experience of every student at Painted Rock.

Our 2015-2016 252 Annual Fund Campaign is currently underway and we are off to an INCREDIBLE START! Thank you to all who have already donated - past and present. This year, our goal for the 252 Annual Fund is to raise approximately $50,000, which makes up almost HALF of our annual budget. So, please consider making a tax-deductible donation. We will continue to offer a 10-month payment schedule — that's $25.20 per month — so we all can help make Painted Rock an extraordinary school! Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Oh, and don't forget to check to see if your employer will match your donation.

In case you missed it during registration, you can find our 252 flyer online and in the school office with further information on how to donate. Our Foundation website also provides information on what we fund.

Thanks to the generous support of our exceptional families and corporate sponsors, we are excited to share that we will have a new science teacher on staff this year, bringing science instruction into every classroom as a part of our new STEM program. Painted Rock's STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) program will be curriculum-based by grade level and include all aspects of science, including computer science. Stay tuned for more information about our new science teacher and STEM program in our next blog!
