All visitors to our campus must check in through the Administration Office at the front of the school.


Please take a few minutes at home to carefully check your child’s health before he/she leaves for school each morning. The following are a few suggestions, which may help to guide you:


~Illness during the night
~Fever is present (100 degrees or greater)
~Complaints of nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, headache, diarrhea prior to leaving for school
~Development of a rash on face and/or body
~Has a severe cold, cough and/or sore throat
~Has inflamed eye(s) with discharge from them

Please Remember: An ill child cannot function properly in the classroom. The spread of illness and disease through class or school can be more easily monitored if sick children remain at home during the acute stage of an illness. If the school health tech detects any of the above, your child will be sent home.

People with influenza-like illness are to remain home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100o F [37.8o C]) without the use of fever-reducing medications.

A student’s absence should be reported on the School Absence Hotline by calling: (858) 679-2639.

Homework can also be requested on this phone message and will be ready after school in the office.

Padres Pop In at Sunset Hills

Sunset Hills PTA is hosting a 3 part series of Parent Education Nights titled, "Self-Reliant, Responsible, and Ready for the World! Raising our Children to Face Life’s Challenges”.   This is a special series being presented by our own Mrs. Tina Ziegler and Ms. Julie Harris, a retired educator.  The second session will being taking place in the MPR room on Thursday, Feb. 11 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  Don’t worry if you missed the first session. This is a night for parents only. Childcare will be provided upon request. The last session is scheduled for Thursday, April 7th. 

There will be door prizes and the teacher with the most families attending will receive a $25 Amazon Gift Card.

Seagulls get ready for Friars Friday!  We finished number one in the Padres School Pop In contest and the Padres will be "popping in" to Sunset Hills, this Friday, February 12th at 10:00 am.  We will be having a pep really out on the playground to welcome 2-3 players and the Pad Squad.  The students will have a chance to hear form the players and show off our Seagull Spirit.  Be sure to wear your Padre gear on Friday.

What a wonderful treat is was for me to visit with all of the participants at the Science Fair last night.  Every student should be proud of the extra work they did.  I especially enjoyed listening to each student explain their project using the scientific method.  Thank you PTA for putting on this annual event.  A special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis for ensuring this event is made possible for our budding scientists.  Our Dad’s Club sponsored the 3rd annual Egg Drop Contest. Kudos to our dads for spending the evening helping the students.

To culminate our Hour of Code class activities we will be hosting a Family Coding Event/MakerSpace on Thursday, March 10 2016.  The event will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the MPR.  This is a hands-on family event.  Activities will include coding on the computer with Scratch and Bitsbox, designing a marble run, creating electrical circuits with LittleBits components and more. 

The Jog-a-Thon is Thursday, February 25th. 

Parents of children with a fifth birthday between June 1st and September 1st, 2016 who wish to enroll their child into a TK class, MUST place their name on a District Interest Wait List. After March 1, 2016, at 8:00 AM, go to the District Website and select "TK Interest Wait List" to put your child's name on the list. The assigned TK school site will notify parents on the Interest List starting in June, or later in the summer, of an opening in TK. The parent will then be given 48 hours to enroll. Due to increased numbers of students required to enroll in TK, please note space is very limited and will be determined on a first-come, first served basis.
